George Preston Marshall acquired the NFL franchise in 1932 and originally named the team the Boston Braves (when the Redskins were located out of Boston) after the city's Major League Baseball team. However, the name was changed to the Redskins. The Redskins name was retained when the team moved to Washington in 1937.
